The US 41 Corridor Lighting project has appeared to hit another snag. At the last meeting of the Rockville Town Council the council appeared to withdraw the town labor support for the project. At the meeting a town representative reported that the US 41 Corridor Committee wanted the town to commit $50,000 towards the project. He also reported that REMC had pulled out of the project.
When US 41 Corridor Committee members were contacted they stated that REMC had not withdrawn from the project. They also said they had requested the town council appropriate funds if they were available in 2008 and 2009 to help with matching grants. If the town does not have money they understand it cannot be allocated. The committee also believes the town is still committed to supplying the labor to the project.
The US 41 Corridor Committee in conjuction with the Parke County Community Foundation has raised 90% of the $135,000 required for the infrastructure portion of the project. The installation of the lights will be in Phase 2 and it will require $375,000. |
